You Can Struggle and Still Have a Good Dog - Jeff Gellman Seminars (2020)

So many folks out there are struggling. Not just with their dogs but with their own personal stuff, too. I often have clients come to me saying “my dog is a wreck and it’s all my fault. I’m anxious, depressed, etc and my dog is picking up on it.” Usually that’s not even the case though. Humans are just really good at projecting those things.

Thankfully, dogs don’t carry the same emotional baggage as we do, and we see dogs do just fine regardless of the owner’s personal struggles. If the owner is trying and sticking to the training, then nine times out of ten they both are able to live a pretty good life together.


I don’t think there is one single person on this earth who has their shit entirely together 100%. So to put that amount of pressure on a dog owner is just not realistic. You don’t have to be perfect to own a dog. You don’t even have to be close to perfect. You just have to do the best you can for you and the dog. Meet your dogs needs. Train your dog. Exercise and feed your dog well. DON’T put your own emotions on your dog. And you will be fine.
