Ear wax removal is necessary when ear wax build up becomes impacted. Symptoms causes by earwax blockage include: earache (otalgia), conductive hearing loss, blocked ear, vertigo, tinnitus, itchiness and irritation, occlusion etc.
The client attended with bilateral stubborn and impacted earwax.
I successfully removed the ear wax using endoscopic ear suction. The ear wax itself was extracted in small pieces. There were a lot of skin adhesions present due to the client also having bilateral Otitis Externa.
In the second ear the ear wax a more impacted and I had to instil some sodium bicarbonate ear wax drops to loosen it. In both ears, there was ear wax against the eardrum which I also delicately removed.
The colour of the ear wax was quite dark meaning it had been in-situ for a while. I have recommended the client use some EarCalm spray but if he is still symptomatic of his bilateral Otitis Externa post-use, I will arrange a referral to his GP for further treatment.
