Heavily-armed police surround Melbourne pub as siege unfolds

Heavily-armed police have surrounded a Melbourne pub and are attempting to negotiate with armed burglars.

Officers were called to the Westmeadows Tavern at 5am on Monday after reports of a burglary.

Two suspects, reportedly armed with rifles, are believed to be holed up inside.

The Special Operations Group and Dog Squad are on scene and negotiators are trying to coax the pair out.

People have been told to avoid the area.
