Singaporeans lined up at supermarkets and grocery stores to stock up on essential supplies and food items on Saturday, one day after the country raised its alert level over the deadly coronavirus outbreak.

Footage shows long lines of shoppers at supermarket counters, carts filled with items and empty shelves. Some encountered difficulties in finding basic goods such as rice.

Singapore's government urged people to stay calm, with authorities saying there was no need for needless accumulation of crucial items.

The orange health alert was announced following reports of three more cases, as Singapore ranks third in the list of countries hit by the disease with 33 confirmed cases.
