π I've Been Saying Hi To Strangers All Day:
Have you ever been torn between saving and betraying someone you love? My brother got in trouble, but I was scared he’d hate me if I tried to help. We're an average family. Mom works in an office and dad's a cop.
My brother and I go to a public school. His name is Stan and he's 15. He always sticks up for me, even when it's my parents. We often cover each others' hides. Especially when we're in trouble with dad.
Stan has a girlfriend. He often comes home late and Dad's unhappy about it. Stan often shares things with me. He is with this cool gang of older boys and they have a lot of fun.
But recently I haven't been seeing a lot of him. I miss his jokes. But I don't barge in on his privacy. He's got his own life.I realize this, but I'm still worried.
He skipped school a few times. He looks tired all the time.
Dad doesn't see this, he's away at work all day long. Mom doesn't notice anything's off. She thinks Stan is grownup enough and doesn't interfere, it's his personal life.
One day he god a callin the middle of the night, he got dressed and jumped out of the room through the window and got outside. His friends were waiting next to our house and they went somewhere together. I was worried.
He wasn't backin the morning. I was really worried, where was he, what was he doing all night, should I cover him up or tell our parents.
Mom left for work, breakfast was on the table. Dad wasn't back yet. I was getting ready for school hoping to see Stan there.
He never showed up. I was scared that something had happened. I could hardly make it till the end of the school day.
I found him asleep at home. I thought I'd wait till he woke and ask him. But he kept on sleeping.
I tried to wake him up in the evening and thought he wasn't breathing! I was terrified that he'd die. I panicked and crying dialed dad.
He kept his calm. He asked me if I noticed anything weird, I said no, except there was a tiny bag of pills, probably fell out of Stan's pocket when I tried to shake him awake.
While dad was on his way, Stan woke up. I was so relieved he did. But I felt terrible that I had to tell on him about his absence at night and at school. Stan called me a little traitor and started getting ready to leave.
But then Dad came home and asked me to leave them alone. I heard him pacing and yelling behind the closed door. Stan was just standing there, silent.
Dad kept yelling and Stan finally yelled back and I heard a bit of what they talked about. Dad said he'd warned him and now he had to act, and Stan said he was an adult and wanted to make his own decisions about life.
Dad said he could arrest Stan for using, and Stan answered that he didn't care, the house was a jail and Dad was a jailer anyway. Dad and Stan kept yelling at eachother.I thought they'd start fighting any minutes. I was very scared.
Dad grabbed Stan by the arm and was dragging him to the car. I asked where he was taking him and dad said that Stan needed help. I thought he was gonna take Stan to the hospital.
Stan was all gaunt and shaking. Dad was determined not to take me with, but I tagged along anyway so that I could stay with Stan at the hospital.
We stopped at an abandoned house and dad said we're there. It didn't look like a hospital at all. Dad took us somewhere else. Dad told us to get out of the car and we followed him into the strange house.
