Last year I found myself slipping into lazy, unhealthy habits at night that would carry over into my next morning. To start this year off right I have instilled some healthier habits to get a much BETTER nights sleep, feel more well rested mentally and physically to set myself up for a successful day.

7 Healthy Habits To Transform Your Night Routine

1. Assess your sleeping situation. What is working for you, and what is not? Part of the reason I don't sleep well is because I can be an overthinker. So, I decided to invest in some quality products. I went to Bed Bath and Beyond on got a weighted blanket (great for relaxing you to sleep!), some softer sheets, and a weighted eyemask. I need a completely dark room, so the eye mask was also super important.

2. Work out more often - some days I don't get enough physical activity and haven't worn myself out enough. Lately I have been working out more, which has helped with my sleep.

3. Eat healthy foods, and don't eat too close to bed time. For dinner I made some salmon, rice, and vegetables. I ate about 3 hours before bed time.

4. JOURNAL! Journaling your thoughts out from the day can help you reflect on what went wrong, what went right, what you can work on etc. Journaling things you are grateful for can really change your attitude, and put your mind at ease. It's important to get all of these thoughts out and be at peace with things, so you aren't kept up at night stressing about a lingering feeling.

5. Cut out alcohol.

6. Get your room ready however you need. I like to clean my room before I go to sleep, once again this puts my mind at ease. I also sleep best in a cooler environment, so I'll open the window and maybe turn a fan on.

7. Don't go on your phone in bed, and place it out of arms reach! If I know my phone is in arms reach, I may get tempted to scroll through before bed- or if I wake up in the middle of the night I may get tempted to check it. Keeping it out of arms reach helps my mind remember that it is NOT an option to check your phone.
