Widespread rainfall offers relief to drought-ravaged communities

Widespread rainfall offers relief to drought-ravaged communities A major downpour has brought much-needed relief for drought-ravaged communities across Australia's east-coast.

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Esther brought some of the region’s heaviest rain since 2016 and saw rain flow into the Murray Darling Basin.

Inland Queensland and New South Wales recorded their heaviest rain in decades, including at Thargomindah and Deniliquin.
Melbourne also recorded its heaviest shower in seven years, with 76 millimetres.

Meanwhile, forecasters have told Brisbane residents to expect more downpours, with severe storms expected on Friday afternoon.
