Prevalence and costs of ADHD comorbidity: first findings from the CoCA project

Prevalence and costs of ADHD comorbidity: first findings from the CoCA project In this web lecture, Dr. Catharina Hartman and Dr. Jeanette Mostert discuss the prevalence and costs of ADHD and its co-occurrence with depression, anxiety, substance use disorder and obesity.

Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder. It starts in childhood, but in about half of the children, ADHD symptoms remain into adulthood. During their lifetime, individuals with ADHD often develop other conditions, called comorbidities. Some of the most frequent comorbid conditions with ADHD are depression, anxiety, substance use disorder and obesity. In the CoCA project, researchers investigated in very large databases how often ADHD and these other conditions co-occur, how their prevalence differs between men and women, and what the healthcare costs are of having both ADHD and these comorbidities.
