New Ohio bill would restrict gender-identity medical treatments for children

New Ohio bill would restrict gender-identity medical treatments for children COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKRC) - A new Ohio bill would restrict gender-identity medical treatments for transgender people under the age of 18.

The Republican House members who introduced it Tuesday proposed punishing doctors who perform surgeries or prescribe hormone treatments for the purpose of changing a child's gender. It's similar to legislation pending in Kentucky that would make it a felony offense.

Ohio is home to several comprehensive clinical programs for transgender youth, including Cincinnati's Children's Hospital. The programs incorporate mental health services with medical treatments.

Equality Ohio plans to fight the legislation.
