In the eastern circle of BSNL, 3,554 employees working for years will retire on January 31. After the retirement of such a large number of employees, the officials have been swollen from work on February 1. The GM administration has requested the retiring employees to provide services till the new arrangements are in place.
The Eastern Circle of BSNL has 6800 officers and employees. Of these, 3,554 employees are taking VIS on 31 January. BSNL services are expected to be adversely affected due to the large number of employees leaving. Despite being aware of three months in advance, the officials were sitting idle and did not make any arrangements to meet the shortage of staff taking VRS. According to departmental sources, on January 29, GM Administration and Personnel AK Srivastava made a written appeal to the employees to continue providing services till alternative arrangements are made. He has said that to support BSNL, employees should write their names and mobile numbers with SSA chiefs, so that their services can be availed.
'Be ready for more responsibility'
BSNL officers have asked the remaining 3 thousand 246 employees to do duty with full dedication after the retirement of a large number of employees. Along with this, it has also been asked to be ready to fulfill more responsibility than before. However, the authorities have already made preparations to avoid any impact on mobile services. Despite this, around 65 per cent of the workforce will be affected due to shortage of phone and broadband services.
Tradition can break, resentment expressed
As per the years-old tradition of BSNL, employees who retired were given shawls, mementoes and farewell by paying Rs 2100. This time the tradition is expected to break due to lack of financial condition of the department. Pallav Bose, the circle secretary of the All India Retired BSNL Executive Welfare Association, has also expressed displeasure over this. According to Pallava Bose, the national general secretary of the organization Prahlad Rai had met CMD PK Purwar and handed over the letter to honor him. Despite this, the CMD raised his hands by continuing the tradition.
