Making a long distance relationship work can be hard. And whenever possible, I encourage people to avoid intentionally having a long distance relationship.

It's so much harder to do long distance than having a conventional relationship where the two of you are in the same location.

But with that being said, I understand that not everyone goes into a relationship with the intention of creating a long distance relationship. Sometimes, people end up going to school far away or being transferred for work.

That's an entirely different story.

When this sort of things happens, try to keep an end date in mind for the distance. Long distance relationships can be demoralizing if they just stretch on endlessly.

So try to make sure that you have an end date in mind.

Also, do your best to show your partner what ordinary life will be like when you are together. Sure, have fun and do romantic things, but also give them a glimpse into your everyday life so that they see what sort of lifestyle being together with you will offer them when they are actually together with you.
